It’s simple – If you’re going to run as the technology candidate and your laptop – with your fancy technological presentation AND your speech – dies in front of a room full of voters … that’s pretty much all she wrote – you are now an ironic footnote to the year. That’s an awful lot of work for one colossal, painful moment of flaming irony.
There I stood – inventing a speech out of thin air as I performed emergency troubleshooting on my dead laptop – thinking to myself:
“This is the most ridiculous moment of my entire life.”
For those folks that asked me to post it – here is the presentation that no one got to see yesterday – currently minus Misty’s speech and my real speech. I’ll post that and few other observations a little later today.
And – as an inside joke – I have one little thing to stick in here – “Gret of Datitude x 4.”
God Damn, that really was a great presentation – and not just because it has Star Trek AND Obama in it!
It is a shame no one saw it.
Well – you did. 🙂
Unpredictable technical glitches aside, it was still a proud few minutes for all of us to stand up on the stage and stand behind a candidate with the message you were running on.
Thanks for doing it.
I think the problem had to do with the mirroring feature on the mac.
Well made video. I have always thought Jeff was talented. He made the video I used for my first vice chair race, and he made my website which was the best site during that campaign. Jeff even designed the current site I blog on.
Thanks for running and thanks to those who stood behind Jeff. The run made for a more exciting race and convention.
My hope is that after the people have spoken we can all roll up our sleeves and work towards electing Utah Democrats.
Rob – a couple of things –
1. Mirroring doesn’t make the audio not work. Mirroring effects the monitor function. Mirroring didn’t freeze the machine the second it got plugged in, and mirroring had nothing to do with the audio going to hell. Had I flipped on the mirroring function, all it would have done is changed what was up on the giant screen. If you’re going to “monkey say” something you heard someone else say – well – maybe you just shouldn’t do that.
2. I’ll happily, gleefully, keep working with and for Democrats. That’s why I ran. I support candidates. I support Democrats. But, please don’t think – not for one minute – that you can pop up with a compliment and think that that will undo any of the nasty, slimy, REPUBLICAN things you’ve done for the past few months.
You used to be a pretty stand-up guy.
Jeff, that was just an absolutely wonderful video. I’m very sad that it wasn’t shown yesterday.
Regardless of the outcome, I’m glad that you ran, and I hope that Wayne can take the issues and do something positive for the party. I was going to write a post about this in-depth, but it seems that Curtis beat me to it, and made most of my points in his recent post. Ah, well.
Jeff,
I would have liked to have seen the video, that day.
Although our Caucus endorsed Wayne, we know you have some good ideas, too. I hope Wayne will want to incorpoate some of them!
That was a really good presentation Jeff.
I have a feeling though, just from the comments I’ve seen from members of the UDP, that the vote would still have gone to Wayne. When looking at the big picture, (or trying to, anyway), it just isn’t time yet.
Utah, as you have so wryly observed, gets stuck in a rut and doesn’t see the light of change until years after the rest of the Nation has made that change. And, as we all know, that has it’s good points as well as the bad ones.
That doesn’t mean there is no hope for change in the party though. The future is wide open, with the up and coming generation of UT voters much more savvy to technology and just how important that technology is in our lives.
Thank you Jeff, for all you do to promote the change we need. I know there has to be days when you just want to throw your hands in the air and say “Eff it!”, but you take a deep breath, square your shoulders, and plow on.
Again…Thank you.
Mr. Bell,
Thank God you lost!
