From over at TV Squad I read that Fox pulled a quick stunt on a group of writers. I hope, after reading this, that other writers over at Fox run, not walk, and double check their contracts.
And you thought that all that business with the WGA strike was over.
The writers for the new animated FOX show Sit Down, Shut Up have walked out, saying they were misled by Sony Pictures. They thought that under the agreement reached a few months ago they would be represented by the Writer’s Guild of America but Sony actually has them covered under the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. Under their rules, writers don’t get all those things they fought for, including new media (online, DVD, etc) money or even residuals.
Oops. And the Ironic thing … it may not be Fox’s evil-doing. How’s that for a bite in the ass? I’m interested in seeing how this works out.
As a side note … IATSE? WTF is IATSE doing representing a writer’s room? I’m a former member of IATSE #7 and I don’t recall any protections on my written works, only if I was crushed by a roll of carpet at the Convention Center (not my favorite job. It took a long time to get into the Union only to find myself duct taping carpets to the convention center floor. Blisters.).
