I’m back at the Park City Marriott today, trying to book one ticket each for the movies I want to see. I was informed that I get to see one movie a day at comp. I asked if this means I can buy tickets to other movies and no one could answer me. So, at one movie a day, this is feeling a little weird.
I’m keeping my eyes open for local media, trying to find a Sundance mentor, find a way to manuver inside what feels like the local media snub-vibe I’m getting.
I watched a guy from NBC talking to one of the folks at the press concierge desk, recieving all smiles and kindness and then, at my turn, one glance at my local station creds and the chilly reception I got made me start laughing. Lots of fun.
The industry folks aroubnd here, though, are wonderful, as are the folks at the Press Room welcome desk. They have actually been in town for awhile and listen to KCPW. They’re being great.
One last thing: to get my hard ticket for a show, I have to be up here, in Park City the day before to put in the paperwork for them. This kind of screws up a 2 day plan next week to “Sundance” in Salt Lake City, and kind of goofs up the gas budget. I’ll have to figure that out.
There is a also a lot of repeat folks here. A lot of “high school girl” cheerleading and hugging and more screaming. It’s mostly guys doing it, as the women are here all seem quite stoney and professional, if polite.
More to come …
