From Time:
Just days before parliamentary polls in Pakistan, leading Prime Ministerial contender and anti terrorism crusader Benazir Bhutto was shot dead during an election rally in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, near Islamabad. “She has been martyred,” said party official Rehman Malik. The Associated Press, citing Malik, reported that Bhutto was shot in the neck and the chest
before the gunman blew himself up. At least 20 bystanders were killed in the blast. Bhutto was rushed to a hospital But, at 6:16 p.m. Pakistan time, she was declared dead.
That’s the sad part. Here’s the embarrassing part: World Leaders express their outrage.
“I am deeply shocked by news of the latest attack in Rawalpindi which has claimed the life of Benazir Bhutto and killed at least 15 other people,” said British Foreign Secretary David Miliband in a written statement. Bhutto “knew the risks of her return to campaign but was convinced that her country needed her.”
President Bush, vacationing at his Texas ranch, condemned the assassination as a “cowardly act by murderous extremists.”
And of course, most embarrassing, is Republican shill and 3rd tier conservative fellatiator, Jow Scarburogh talking about what a great bump Rudy 911 will get in the polls because of this.
Always classy, GOP, always classy.

“President Bush, vacationing at his Texas ranch, condemned the assassination as a ‘cowardly act by murderous extremists.'”
Is that an admission of guilt by Bush?
My first thought when I heard about this was that it sounds like something Bush would set up, in order to keep us in Iraq longer, and keep us from looking into his administration’s corruption.
It’s definitely hard to completely disregard the possible complicity of Bush’s “Ally” in this. It works out too well for Musharraf. They operate in a three party system, in which two parties planned to join forces to defeat him. With Buhtto out of the way, the two party coalition will crumble. And it’s very easy to prop up the tenets of democracy when you are the only candidate for election.
Republicans will spin the shit out of this one. Rudy waited about 33 seconds after the news broke to hump a microphone and camera. But not addressed in Bush’s comments were the billions of dollars we’ve given Musharraf to prevent this very thing from happening, and what it says about the administrations strategy so far to make the world a safer place for democracy.
