Rest in peace, big fella. I hope they have a giant Jungle Room up there. 30 years is a long time time ago, but I still remember your funeral.
Quick question Mr. Presley: now that Nixon is the 2nd worst President, does he get to take day trips to heaven to visit, or is he pretty much still stuck down below?
er, I may be stupid, but I am completely missing some sort of context to this post. Did someone die? Is it an anniversary? What the hell are you talking about?
It’s the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death… you may have heard of him, the guy who brought this obscure music form called “rock and roll” into the mainstream. Ring any bells?
Ring any Bells?
Wasn’t that the Platters?
Nixon the 2nd?! I must disagree.
Current Bush is 1st.
Reagan is 2nd.
So that would make Nixon the 3rd.
Reagan #2? He was bad, but I have him as #7
Hmm, afraid I would have to disagree with you there. If you’re talking about the general mainstream, I would say Chuck Berry and Little Richard and the like did more for the advancement of Rock to broad audiences. If you’re specifically talking about white mainstream, that would have to be Bill Haley, who had the first rock & roll billboard #1 hit with “Rock Around The Clock” in 1954.
I would say that Elvis wasn’t a musician, but a performer. He performed the concepts formed by other people, and he did it well. He was like Madonna, I guess. Yes, just like Madonna.
Oh, and besides, he’s not dead.
