Just a couple of quick things as I wait for the official change of majority in Washington DC.

FIRST: Along with most of the media and Utah County Republicans, I thought the Governor had a tough choice to make filling Alexander’s seat. The Governor, it turns out, knew better. It seemed that all he really had to do was build a time machine, go back three years and have someone run a bill that took it off his plate. As the talented Tad Walch from the Utah Republican Party Deseret Morning Newsletter points out:

Party leaders went to bed Tuesday night believing Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. would choose between finalists John Curtis and Chris Herrod after one-on-one interviews scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

They woke up Wednesday morning to learn that they had overlooked a 2004 change in state law that took the decision away from the governor and was intended to leave it to local party officials.

A Time Machine. No one saw that coming, Governor. Shrewd move indeed.

SECOND: Note to Rep. Cannon, his office and his staff: THE ELECTION IS OVER.

In a note to the Salt Lake Tribune, Rep. Cannon’s (UT3) Chief of Staff, Joe Hunter was still beating the war drum trying to frighten the children and stir the pot of terror about the Nov. 7th elections that, if you were paying attention, WERE TWO MONTHS AGO. Now, the funny thing is, he’s talking about the challenge from a fellow Republican against Mr. Cannon in the 2008 election.

Joe Hunter, Cannon’s chief of staff, said “it’s a bit early to start a campaign.”
“Right now, Congressman Cannon is focused on the session of Congress that is commencing this week, and upon protecting Utah’s interests in a House of Representatives led by Nancy Pelosi,” Hunter wrote in an e-mail. “When the time comes to have a campaign, we will have one.”

Did you catch the part about Speaker Pelosi? Funny, huh? Didn’t Joe get the memo that his boss, the ever bumbling Rep. Cannon, had already heavily backpedaled on calling Pelosi the Devil and his doom saying about the seven plagues that will follow a Democratic Victory in the November 7th elections that WERE TWO MONTHS AGO?

THIRD: Today begins the 100 Hours that you can read about in the post below.
