It’s my second day back at work after returning from DC and I have to tell you, making sense of the last 24 hours of the Legislative session is not the easiest task. The problem, I’m finding, is not so much what happened, but where to start as far as talking about it.
It’s no secret that education suffered, especially with the way that the Republican Senate “taught Gov. Huntsman a lesson” by killing all day kindergarten. Apparently, school’s not just for children anymore and a knee jerk reaction that harms children to prove a cheap political point is just fine up on the hill. Ah, what a proud moment that must have been as a Republican on the hill. ‘Stick it to the kids! That’ll learn him”
The disability waiting list shows no sign of getting any shorter. In fact, more than anything else, it seems that Utahns with disabilities were treated worse than anyone else up on the hill this year, both in budgeting priority AND personally.
There were a lot of dedicated community activists working very hard for the citizens of Utah, and, personally, it seemed that the more they cared and the harder they worked, the less consideration was taken of them.
So, I’m frustrated.
