We’re Watching, Are You?
Sen. Chris Buttars, under the control of the Utah Eagle Forum’s Gayle Ruzicka, pitched his Origin of Life bill , ostensibly to wrest curriculum control from elected school boards, and has finally rolled out his own “soft repeal” of another chunk of the American landscape: barring certain clubs from high School students. In view, however, of Senator Buttars being both ill and absent, another anti-civic minded Republican, Rep. Aaron Tilton, has charged in to fill the disenfranchisement gap.
Backed by Governor Huntsman, Republican lawmakers are still attempting to abolish the bi-partisan rule of the Board of Regents. Also, in reply to Democratic charges that the Governor may be stalling legislation aimed at helping Utah workers, Huntsman spokesman, Democrats were called “disingenuous”. Sen. Stephensen has reportedly “tamed the language” of SB170, the bill that would repeal sections of the US Constitution and take away the rights of voters under the explanation that legislators know more than voters, due to violent voter outrage.
Added to the list are bills that would have stripped cities of their zoning rights, among other things, but that Sen. Mansell indignantly pulled stating that he was just showing off for his friends trying to make a point…
“Substantialchanges in the current law will be made before the session is over. It will be through this bill or others.” – Sen. Al Mansell, speaking of SB170
We also have fights about ethics reform and Legislative retooling of GRAMA and, added to the power grab festivities wasa last minute move to restrict public access to elected officials. Apparently the parking nightmare on the Hill wasn’t doing the job well enough.
