“Left of the Dial” is on TODAY! Saturday at 4pm MST – 1160am – 102.7fm and www.ksl.com/radio
Hi, folks, just wanted to let you know that Left of the Dial is going to be on today – a rare fall treat for me while I’m usually preempted by BYU Football.
Today’s topic is – Political Hypocrisy and the Republican’t Hate Machine. There’s a lot of ground to cover in a short amount of time.
I’m not on again until November – so I hope you can take an hour and join me – let me throw in an additional request – if you’re listening – CALL IN. The more I hear from you, the better the show is.

Thanks,
Jeff Bell
Hey Jeff, how about, on your next show, trying to start a local dialogue on ‘warrantless wiretapping/Fourth Ammendment’. Jasonthe linked this on the KVNU blog.

Democrats were pretty riled at the last administration over this. It would be cool to show some consistancy. Utah is about to become ground zero for this:
“Lacking adequate space and power at its city-sized Fort Meade, Maryland, headquarters, the NSA is also completing work on another data archive, this one in San Antonio, Texas, which will be nearly the size of the Alamodome.”
“At a million square feet, the mammoth $2 billion structure will be one-third larger than the US Capitol and will use the same amount of energy as every house in Salt Lake City combined.”

“In contrast, the Figure also shows
that the capability of the DOD Global Information Grid (GIG) to transport
or store this data is not keeping pace with projected growth. The concern is
that much of the sensor data will not be processed. Indeed, the complaint
has often been voiced in both the DOD and IC communities that even today
“70 % of the data we collect is falling on the floor.”

So Camp Williams is the new home for the Patriot Act.
Local press seems to back this up:
“It will also require at least 65 megawatts of power — about the same amount used by every home in Salt Lake City combined. ”

“The agency has been seeking to decentralize its operations in an effort to protect assets and find areas with the capacity to satiate the energy appetites of its enormous computer caches. ” From here: http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_12744661
The NSA will spend more than that on electrical work alone at its new center, a 1-million-square foot venture that will cost nearly $2 billion to build, according to budget documents. From here: http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_12772821
So how about it? Do you think Utah Democrats can make some noise about this? On the national front they are sagging on this issue. C’mon, do it for Andy. Doesn’t he reflect voting Utahns values?
“A more serious concern is the fact that
the capabilities of various sensors are added one on top of another to create
the ultimate projection of a Yottabyte of data by 2015.”
“Finally, if one were to save an image of the
earth at 1 m2 resolution every second for 100 years, you would accumulate
1.6 Yottabytes.”

Tim, you’re more than welcome to go back and check the archives for the 5 shows I’ve done on that topic in the last 2 years. 2 of them about the Obama Admin not changing the warrentless wiretapping behaviors.
I will grant, however, that I’ve not gone as deep as you have above, but, I beg consideration for the facts that:
1 – I have 34 minutes perweek once you shave commercials, PSAs, Traffic and Weather out of my show.
2 – If I take just one call, subtract 4.3 minutes. I usually take 3-4 calls per show.
I want to get to all of it – every week – but this show should serve as an example:
This week I outlined 4 distinct politically hypocritical behaviors – 3 Repub and 1 Democrat. I started the show with a smartassed comment about silly protest signs and made exactly 0 of the points I had outlined.
Nothing ever seems to go as planned. 🙂
Jeff, it wasn’t meant to be a slam. I just thought it might be a good local topic, with local ties, in the ‘Constitution/Tea Party’ enviroment we are in. I’m not trying to point out your hypocrisy. I’m just trying to plug what I think is a serious discussion for all Utahns. And your voice carries alot farther than mine.
