I’m not going to delve to deeply into my U2 worship. They alone will always hold the (un) coveted JM Bell’s Favorite Band Of All Time title.
I’ve been listening to U2 since the early 80’s. In fact, when I was bopping along to The Thompson Twins or Aztec Camera or even Erasure, whatever 80’s New-Wave, synth-pop I had at the time, I always had U2 as a primary choice.
It’s Ironic that U2 went all synth-pop after I didn’t listen to it anymore but I still listened to them do it. Anyway, the U2 theme for today is:
U2 Songs I Love To Play On Guitar and Sing To My Kids.
The first one, Desire, is the first song I learned to play on guitar.
Amen Brother Bell. But I was bitterly disappointed not to see Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Alphaville, or INXS in your 80’s pantheon.
‘Running To Stand Still’ breaks your heart without killing your spirit. ‘Bad’ Part II.
Best U2 song ever, from the best U2 album ever: Hawkmoon 269.
U2 is one of the best rock bands ever. I love that they are still together after 20 years too! How many other bands can say that?
Thanks for these afternoon tunes, Jeff, they really make my days.
And, RC, I’ve never met anyone else who says that ‘Hawkmoon 269’ is their favorite song! Mine too! Most die-hard fans have never even heard the song.
Unlike a lot of folks, I loved Rattle and Hum. I wore out two VHS copies when it came out on video and have 2 back-up CD’s in case one goes missing. Rattle and Hum is the most thefted album I own.
I even, to a far lesser extent like that disco crap they were doing for awhile.
My favorite album is either October or Boy. I love the simple 4 part rock band sound of them.
As to Sputnik, Alphaville, and INXS, among others, Ric, They’ll show up. Sputnik was a lot of fun, but I ran more to the Sex Pistils, Black Flag and the Dead Milkmen.
Oh, and, damn you both for hawkmoon. That was going to be on the next U2 post. This one was the one’s I can still play, I haven’t been able to play Hawkmoon since I broke my neck in 1997.
