This from Paul Rolly’s column today:

They all look alike: This month’s copy of School Reform News, published by the national pro-voucher organization The Heartland Institute of Chicago, contains a story about attempts to repeal the voucher law in Utah. It is accompanied by a picture of Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson with a caption that identifies him as Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff.*

That article, by author Aricka Flowers, quotes Utah’s Parents for Choice in Education Director Elisa Peterson as saying “This program is a crack in the dyke in the teachers unions’ monopolistic control of the system.”

That prompted Rep. Carol Moss, D-Holladay, to e-mail Flowers asking if she intended to use the “offensive slang term for lesbian,” or describe a wall that holds back water, which is spelled “dike.”

Nothing like getting a reprimand from a teacher when you work for a pro-voucher, anti-public education group. Ah, the Heartland Institute … ignorant, “ig-nernt”, chuckleheads. How do you screw up “dyke / dike” right before you use “monopolistic”? That pesky MS Word synonym menu is my guess.

Way to go, Rep. Moss.

* Seriously, is this not the funniest thing? I have to get a copy to hang on the wall at my desk.
