If this doesn’t call for a bi-partisan intervention, I don’t know what does. Add this to Newt’s recent blather about the first amendment being a little too annoying for his tastes (and plans for world domination) and you start to get a picture about an element of the GOP that is running amok.
Hey, News Flash, Sen. McCain, Republicans blog too. You have got to stop spending so much time with Sen. Hatch, you’re starting to sound like him, and besides, he’s going to jump on the Good Ship Romney, so, quit trying to impress him, eh?
Here’s the story, Stolen from Think Progress:
John McCain has made clear that he doesn’t like the blogosphere.
Now he has introduced legislation that would treat blogs like Internet service providers and hold them responsible for all activity in the comments sections and user profiles. Some highlights of the legislation:
– Commercial websites and personal blogs “would be required to report illegal images or videos posted by their users or pay fines of up to $300,000.”
– Internet service providers (ISPs) are already required to issue such reports, but under McCain’s legislation, bloggers with comment sections may face “even stiffer penalties” than ISPs.
