From the Washington Post article:

The Citizens Flag Alliance, a group pushing for the Senate this week to pass a flag-burning amendment to the Constitution, just reported an alarming, 33 percent increase in the number of flag-desecration incidents this year.

The number has increased to four, from three.

From a United States Marine:

Jeff,

As a US Marine, I am vehemently opposed to an amendment banning flag burning. My flag has survived over 200 years of massive social change, unrest, and, indeed, battles in which the blood of my fellow Marines stained the ground around it. The disrespect displayed by anyone burning the flag is a testament to the fortitude of our country, a right that I gladly DEFEND, and an honor for me to do so. Let them burn it.

I fly mine with the proud knowledge that their small minded attempt to shame the glory it represents will be lost in the sands of time. A fundamental change to the freedom guaranteed by my constitution will do more to diminish the sacrifice of my fallen brothers than some protester with a match.
